Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Wyoming is partnering in a cluster hire in applied artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) and data science led by a new School of Computing. Through the cluster hire in STEM Applications of Advanced AI/ML and Big Data we invite applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2023. The position will be held jointly between the School of Computing and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Through this opportunity, the Department of Physics and Astronomy seeks a computational astrophysicist or cosmologist with expertise in applied data science, applications of Machine Learning methods, and/or high-performance computing. Candidates should have experience in a field related to time domain or multi-messenger astrophysics, ideally with a focus on rapid data processing and decision making to identify and track interesting or unusual sources in large surveys.
