Job Description
The Centre for Space Research at North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa, is seeking to strengthen its position in radio astronomy, especially in light of the new and upcoming infrastructure such as MeerKAT and SKA, and having constructed their own local 4 x 3.7-m dish radio interferometer. We are particularly interested in candidates with a research interest and technical skills and experience in radio astronomy and interferometry.
We currently have two vacant positions to fill: one at full professor, associate professor, or senior lecturer levels with a balanced teaching and research requirement, and the other at senior lecturer level with more focus on research.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
§ Professor
· PhD in Astrophysics / Astronomy
· 10 years’ teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
· 10 years’ postgraduate supervision and training experience
· 10 years’ experience as an active researcher
§ Associate Professor
· PhD in Astrophysics / Astronomy
· 5 years’ teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
· 5 years’ postgraduate supervision and training experience
· 5 years’ experience as an active researcher
§ Senior Lecturer
· PhD in Astrophysics / Astronomy
· 3 years’ teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
· 3 years’ postgraduate supervision and training experience
· 3 years’ experience as active researcher, preferably some postdoctoral experience
