Two Faculty Positions in Astronomy and Astrophysics

The Instituto de Astronomía at the Universidad Católica del Norte (IA-UCN) in Antofagasta, Chile, invites applications for two faculty positions from enthusiastic candidates. The positions will become permanent after one year, subject to satisfactory progress. Applications are particularly welcome from candidates currently working on exoplanets, especially transiting exoplanets, or massive star formation. The starting date is flexible but is expected to be by mid-2024.

Successful candidates will have access to the 10% of time guaranteed to Chilean institutions on all international observatories based in the country (ESO, ALMA, APEX, LCO, etc.). Additionally, researchers at the IA-UCN have exclusive access to the facilities that will be installed at the new UCN-led Ventarrones observatory in the near future. 

The successful candidates are expected to contribute to the growth of the institute via research, teaching, management tasks, and liaison with the community. They will carry out independent research programs and collaborate with existing researchers at the IA-UCN, including students and postdoctoral fellows. In addition, the succesful candidates are expected to direct undergraduate and doctoral theses, and to teach each academic semester at the undergraduate/graduate level.

The application deadline is March 15, but late applications will be considered until the positions are filled. Applications must include: i) a cover letter; ii) a curriculum vitae; iii) a list of publications; iv) a statement of research, detailing interests and future plans; v) contact information for three references, from whom support letters may be requested.
